Manchester United reached the next round of the League Cup tournament with some difficulty on Tuesday. Donny van de Beek got a starting place for the first time against Championship club Luton Town and was immediately named man of the match.
The team of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær had a false start in the Premier League last weekend. Crystal Palace proved to be too strong at Old Trafford with 1-3. Van de Beek was thorough as a replacement and he made his debut at the base on Tuesday night.
United, where only Harry Maguire kept his starting place, came out with difficulty. Juan Mata had the best chance, but he found goalkeeper James Shea on the way. In the half-time battle, it was fought for The Mancunians. Mata hit a penalty kick after Brandon Williams broke down.
In the second half, Van de Beek, among others, got a chance twice. In the end, substitutes Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood secured the 0-3 final result. The former Ajax player had already been replaced but was named man of the match.
