Video claims to show Apple’s magnetic wireless charger prototype

A new video sent to 9to5Mac this morning claims that it shows a prototype of a new Apple accessory that appears to be a wireless charger of some kind.

The video follows reports earlier this year of an upcoming small wireless charging mat from Apple. It can also be related to the recent reports that the upcoming iPhone 12 models will have an internal magnet ring on the back of the device that can allow attachment of accessories such as wireless chargers.

It is unclear if the charging module shown in the video is a prototype for an upcoming Apple product or development device that the company will provide third-party accessory manufacturers similar to what it does with the Apple Watch charger and other parts through its MFi program. .

In addition to previous reports that Apple is planning a “smaller wireless charging mat”

;, there have apparently been several rumors from Chinese accessory manufacturers that a new built-in magnetization on the back of the upcoming iPhone 12 models will enable new accessories.

The dimensions of the charging module shown in today’s video seem to match magnets shown in schemas of the rumored accessories from the Chinese manufacturers. Earlier rumors speculated that the magnetization allows for precise positioning of devices for wireless chargers, which is a common problem for Qi chargers that do not use free positioning technology. It may also allow other accessories to be attached to the back of the unit.

The new iPhone 12 models are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks after Apple previously confirmed that the launch would be “a few weeks later” than the regular launch in mid-September.
